Yama Farooq Mujadidi, DPhil in Clinical Research

Current postgrad at Linacre College, University of Oxford

I was born into an Afghan family and built my life on the conviction that knowledge is the most powerful form of resilience. That belief carried me from Kabul to Oxford, where I now serve as Director of Clinical Trials Programming and Data Management at the Oxford Vaccine Group and pursue my doctoral research on automation and interoperability in clinical trials.

At Oxford, I have led many novel projects. I led the data infrastructure for the Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, enabling the delivery of billions of doses worldwide. I oversaw data management for the TyVAC trial in Asia, which resulted in the WHO's prequalification of the first typhoid conjugate vaccine, protecting millions of children. Throughout my career, I have travelled across continents, ensuring that science translates into action and has a meaningful impact.

Beyond science, I'm an entrepreneur. I founded Oxus Global Impact (Oxus Academy), an educational platform advancing women's equality, now with a focus on Afghanistan, where girls are denied the right to education and employment. I also founded Oxus Technologies, utilising digital innovation to address global health challenges. For me, entrepreneurship is not about profit; it is about creating tools that empower people and dismantle barriers.

As a delegate with UN Women UK, I campaign for the rights of women and children while also mentoring young scientists and future leaders so they, too, can turn conviction into impact.

My journey has been recognised internationally, from the Fazlur Rahman Khan Award to the ACDM Individual Excellence Award, and I have been named Best Muslim in STEM in Britain.

From Kabul to Oxford, my story has been one of persistence, leadership, and responsibility. What truly matters to me are not titles or honours, but rather the impact they have: vaccines that save lives, education that breaks down barriers, and a voice that insists science and justice must coexist.
